Kacprzyk

Janusz Kacprzyk is Professor of Computer Science at the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Professor at WIT – The Warsaw School of Information Technology, and Professor at PIAP – Industrial Institute of Automation and Measurements, allin Warsaw, Poland. He is Honorary Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Yli Normal University, Shanxi, China, and Visiting Scientist at RIKEN Brain research Institute in Wako-shi, Japan. He has been a visiting professor at many universities in the USA, England, Italy, UK and Mexico. He is Academician (Member) of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Foreign Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Spanish Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences. His research interests include intelligent systems, soft computing, fuzzy logic, decision making, decision analysis and decision support, database querying, information retrieval, data analysis, data mining, etc. He is President of IFSA (International Fuzzy Systems Association) and President of the Polish Society for Operational and Systems Research. He is Fellow of IEEE and IFSA. He received The 2005 IEEE CIS Fuzzy Pioneer Award for pioneering works on multistage fuzzy control, notably fuzzy dynamic programming, The Sixth Kaufmann Prize and Gold Medal for pioneering works on the use of fuzzy logic in economy and management, the Award of the Silicon Valley Chapter of IEEE CIS for pioneering works on granular computing and computing with words and The 2013 IFSA Award. His publication record is: 5 books, 50 volumes, 400 papers. He is Editor in chief of 5 Springer’s book series, and a co-editor of 2 Springer book series, is on the editorial boards of ca. 40 journals, being the editor in chief of 2 journals, and a member of the IPC at more than 300 conferences.

Věra Kůrková received Ph.D. in topology from Charles University, Prague in 1980 and DrSc (equiv. Prof.) in 1999. Since 1990, she has been a scientist with the Institute of Computer Science, Czech Academy of Sciences. From 2002 to 2008, she was the Head of the Department of Theoretical Computer Science. Her research interests include machine learning, mathematical theory of neurocomputing, inverse problems, nonlinear approximation and optimization. She is an associate editor of the journals Neural Networks, Neural Processing Letters, and in 2008-€“2009 also of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks. She is the president  the European Neural Networks Society and was the general Chair of conferences ICANNGA 2001 and ICANN 2008. In 2010 she was awarded by the Czech Academy of Sciences the Bolzano Medal for her contributions to mathematics.

MVellasco

Marley Vellasco received the BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil, in 1984 and 1987, respectively, and the PhD degree in Computer Science from the University College London (UCL) in 1992. Dr. Vellasco is currently Head of the Electrical Engineering Department of PUC-Rio and of the Computational Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory (LIRA) of PUC-Rio. She is the author of four books and more than 45 papers in professional journals, 300 papers in conference proceedings and 15 book chapters in the area of soft computing and mahine learning.
Her research interests include Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, Neuro-Fuzzy Systems, Neuro-Evolutionary models, Robotics, and Intelligent Agents, applied to decision support systems, pattern classification, time-series forecasting, control, optimization and Data Mining

Francisco J. Valverde-Albacete received his Eng. Degree in Telecommunications from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) in 1992 and his DEng in Telecommunications from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain) in 2002.
He has been a Researcher at the Computer Science Dept., UNED, Madrid, Spain, and Associate Professor at the Signal Theory and Communications Department, Universidad Carlos III. He has also visited with U. of Strathclyde (UK), U. degli Study di Trento (Italy) and the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI, Berkeley, USA). At present he is a Researcher at the Dpto. de Teoría de la Señal y de las Comunicaciones, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain). Dr. Valverde-Albacete has published over 60 papers in books, journals and conferences in applied maths, cognitive, speech, and language processing, machine learning and data mining, where his interests lie. For the past 10+ years he has been working specially in activating and understanding Formal Concept Analysis as a bioinspired technique to model cognitive process. He was awarded best paper in the ICFCA 2015 conference and in the 2013 workshop on FCA for IR, jointly held with ECIR’13. He is a member of IEEE’s Computational Intelligence Society and ACM.

FotoJMedina

Jesús Medina received the M.S. degree in mathematics in 1998 from the University of Granada, Spain, and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics in 2002 from the University of Málaga, Spain. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Cádiz, Cádiz, Spain, and evaluated by the Spanish National Agency ANECA as Full Professor, and the International Project Manager of the University of Cádiz.  He is also the author or coauthor of more than 100 papers presented at conferences and published in scientific journals, including the Journal of Applied Logic, Applied Mathematics Letters, Information Sciences, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, and Computers and Mathematics with Applications. His is interested in the research areas of fuzzy sets, fuzzy rough sets, fuzzy logic, residuated and multi-adjoint logic programming, relational data analysis, and algebraic structures for soft computing. He is a Member of the European Association for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT).
